So indirectly you don't support RPing?

So indirectly you don't support RPing? I guess, but its more that I support rping skill. A total nub with a diamond sword would lose to a pro with an iron sword on an average day, but if combat was just stand there and take turns hitting each other, the pro would lose. Which, being pro, I have issues with.

If you don't roll, it gives people the (attractive) opportunity to continually block your attacks, or dodge, or whatever. AKA godmoding.
So it's either default minecraft fighting (very quick, no RP involved, really) Or roll based emote fights (RP element, bonuses from items, luck.)
Unless someone has a better idea.
Edit: and that's the problem with the idea. It's the obvious downside...but with the regular combat system, people who lag, or people who can't really fight don't have a prayer at beating anyone, which for them, probably makes things less fun.

Well, I am sure most nubs won't have diamond swords, but I think that we should embrace the two like long lost lovers, and pwn the n00bs with real fighting, but a match of skill with RP-fighting.

Rolling could be useful, but not for battle. Imagine playing an fps and then the game gets an update where gameplay is changed to standing there taking turns shooting at each other. Turn based combat is fun in some games, but that is because its not taking the skill out of the game, because it was never there. In minecraft, you are taking out an element of the game, which is something you never want to do. If combat is decided only on how good your gear is, that means its just based on grind time, which means Clue would win every battle.

But my gear is iron.

Also, for the argument of there's no rp in vanilla fighting, that's true, and its because you are focused on not dying and killing the other person. You rp the start of a fight though, and the end, but who talks in the middle of fighting someone? Unless you're playing the dashing swordsman prestige class, you shut up in combat and get the job done.

You grunt, which requires emotes.

You do not need emotes for grunting. You really, really don't. Especially since there is already a damage noise.

But I play with my sound off so I need emotes, and ozz needs emotes for EVERYTHING.

Same goes for scud. 1) It provides a more authentic RPG feel, if you can tell girls apart from guys. It's hard to tell otherwise. 2) Horses are fun and very RPG-esque. 3) Obvious, read original description. You're not good enough at RP to pretend someone's a girl?

So blob, you don't play on the RP server to RP, rather, you play to fight people in combat?

So blob, you don't play on the RP server to RP, rather, you play to fight people in combat? No, I never fight people if I can avoid it, or if they are pissing me off on my boat. I play an rp server to rp and have fun. If I just wanted to fight, I'd go find a pvp server, or play an evil character. But when I do have to fight, I want my super skills and iron sword to be just as good as that nub with a diamond sword. Skill is just as important in combat as gear, that is the way minecraft is and we shouldn't change that.
