Roll dice battles aren't about skill but more about equipment, same goes to normal MC battles. I was wondering if somebody could make a plugin (if there isnt one already) that when somebody uses the right click (blocking) it has an 80% chance of working. Also if somebody hits you with a sword at the same time you hit him with your sword there's an 80% of parry. This will block out damage, but possibly count as a sword use thus leading it to break. If this is ever done the battles would all require skill, not only equipment, and not only will the battles last longer but there could be chance for some RP to go on. If anybody can do this, remember to give me credit! ;D

Again, that's not skill. It's still luck.

We can have RTS style battles. Instead of losing hearts we lose 'hit points' through a plugin. Attacks are automatic and occur whenever you are a set distance from an enemy player and have LOS. Home base respawn, etc. This would be best for faction wars.

Again, that's not skill. It's still luck. Then what is considered skill to you? Luck is required for anything, dice roll battles, normal mc battles, magic battles, mob battles, any kind of battle luck is always involved.

But skill overrides luck, I quote a very popular game franchise: "Luck is in everything you do, the effect is minor, but it goes through all the skills." Skill would be strategy, strength, boldness, but caution, skill is hard to put into an RPG, the most common way is through: Leveling[/b][/u]

Well, leveling is okay but the idea died when scud suggested it on TJRP.

I liked McMMO, except some of the bonuses are OP. Maybe just the combat ones.

Maybe a different leveling system? A bit of modifying to McMMO?

How about we keep minecraft combat as minecraft combat, and add things without taking stuff away. Also, by skill I do not mean a number that determines how much damage you do, but the actual player's skill at fighting. Leveling is the same problem as gear based battles, battles are based entirely on grind time instead of a balance of grind time and skill. EDIT: Just saw clue's snipe suggesting McMMO, I plugin I personally hate because it is another thing that rewards grind time and removes player skill.

But levels are skill, just in a way that is easy to implement. Leveling plus Actual skill is epic, and leveling promotes people being on the server more so they don't get left in the dust by the people who, play alot (E.G, me, flaming, etc). And in EVERY Minecraft server, gear can beat skill, unless the play truly is skillful.

I bring up the example of the diamond sword nub vs the iron sword pro. Also, people who play more are already rewarded by having more time to grind for stuff, which is still useful. But things like McMMO make it so people who are unable to get on often get left in the dust, new people are left in the dust, and people who take breaks from the server are left in the dust.

Good for them, that is often how it works IRL. People who do not work out often get left in the dust. People who start working out can get left in the dust. People who take a break form working out may get left in the dust. Gear is useful, levels are useful, levels are the best way to administer skill, if you think of a better way, please do share it.

Well, leveling is okay but the idea died when scud suggested it on TJRP. I suggested a different kind of leveling related to crafting. But w/e.

Maybe damage is based on XP level? Discuss.
