The island is quite small, and of course, really sandwiching cold, the citizens of the island were manipulated by the leader, and the leader had 30 killers that got work done and got him money, the leader, also known as "the butcher", kept his rank using force, completely destroying anyone that challenged him for his rank. He also manipulated the world into thinking they were the only ones in this world and that they would die in horrible ways if they left, that made it easier to control the nation without having to deal with exterior affairs.
Most citizens on the island had extremely pale skin, and the ones that did not were considered strange, they are also very resistant to cold and hate places too warm, not that there is any.
The butcher had his 30 killers in a "clan" for better organization, To gain Rank, you had to kill the person you wanted to replace in a duel, The longer you survived, the more respect you gained, Rank 30 through 6 is nothing compared to the top 5, and only they are allowed to challenge the butcher. To enter the top 5, you must take the current #5's position in hand to hand combat.
Other "clans" existed on the island, They were more like street gangs, fighting each other for supremacy, The butcher limited the gangs to 30 members, to stop wars from happening. One could challenge the butcher's men in a 30 versus 30 fight, but the butcher sent only one, as it was usually enough.
The island was first discovered by a fishing vessel, They decided to settle there and try to colonize the area, after years, people started to forget the world outside and adapted to the island, they were never found, The ship's captain, quite old, Had a son, His wife died when giving birth, He taught him to lead the people, He did not care about his father's ways, as he taught force was the best way to deal with the people, One day, he killed his father and made sure he could control the people, Control he did, and the nation was plunged into a world of darkness.
He started making an army, hand picking children to teach them to fight, He made a squad of 30 to protect him, Then he realized 5 was enough, and sent the other 25 on jobs to get him money, that gave him much more profit than the taxes he did not have, When the squad members begin to die, he thought he would need backups, so he took more children to replace the fallen.
Now He needed more power, so he let gangs roam the streets, fighting the others, having his clan suppress crime, He wanted a better figure, Then, he let gangs try to take his place, just so he could show them how powerful he was, He still needed more power but how? There was no more land to control, So he let the secret out, he made someone leave the island and spread the word about his empire, hoping that he could find the person and take over...
Miria, #7 has left the island, everyone thinks she is dead, except one person who knows she is out there, somewhere...
