According to wikipedia a republic is: A republic is a form of government in which the government is officially apportioned to the control of the people, or a significant portion of which, and where offices of state are subsequently directly or indirectly elected or appointed
A democracy is: Democracy is an egalitarian form of government in which all the citizens of a nation together determine public policy, the laws and the actions of their state, requiring that all citizens (meeting certain qualifications) have an equal opportunity to express their opinion.
Basically, republic specifies the people, where democracy specifies everyone. HOWEVER the republic is in fact a democracy, not an aristocracy or oligarchy. So therefore, everyone is wrong.

Quote from the wiki page YOU linked:In modern republics such as the United States and India
Apparently the US is not a democracy...
Moral of this story: Read the whole wiki page before posting it and dont call people dumb until you are sure you are RIGHT.
Woah, didnt see that there was a page 2 there... Whatever.

The US is both a republic and a democracy, just like the republic.

So rex, you can't call people stupid for using a perfectly valid definition. The first one.

I just realized there was a page one. That was rather rude of Rex. And who doesn't know who the Romans were?
