I kind of find it hard to belive that the republic can remain fully democratic when it is so poor. Poor democratic countries usually get better(US great depression), become a dictatorship(Nazi Germany), or end up with loads of corruption and inequality(Brazil, india...). I get the feeling that the republic has remained poor and democratic for a long time, which is even more unbelievable.
Also the republic doesn't look poor, it looks better than most cities on TJ RP. I expected a sprawling plain full of huts for some reason.
