This is Jaska lore.
The Moon Mystics are mysterious spell-weavers of the Jaska. Magically gifted Jaska are rare, and when they are born they are taken and trained, so they never know their parents. They often act as religious leaders of the Jaska, and also have their hands in politics as advisers. They draw their power from the moon, and that's where their name come from.
During the Slex Dominion, but before the forming of the alliance, the Moon Mystics lead a great exodus from the empire, taking their entire order and all their followers with them. They left on The Great Barge, a secret project they had kept hidden in case of emergency. It was an enormous floating city, and they used their magic to keep it hidden as they escaped. Once the Slex Dominion fell, they restored contact with the Jaska, but in their short absence their culture had slightly varied from that of the original Jaska. They used a lunar calender, and all their clothes and houses were much more colorful, because living in the middle of the ocean you shortly begin to long for colors other than blue. They had also created a bond with the sea turtles that swam around the barge. They were considered holy animals of the Jaska god, and could never be killed. Most people had them as pets, and the Moon Mystics had large ones that could be ridden on land and in the water.
TL;DR : Its a different section of Jaska culture because I had a much different visualization of them than Scud. It also gives some background for anyone who wants to be a Jaska mage.
