The Korsan were a race distantly related to the Jaska, they could not breathe under-water, but they were just as good at sailing. Unlike the Jaska, however, they were an aggressive and violent race. They lived in harbor cities or on boats, and almost all of them were pirates. They attacked any ship they saw, stealing its cargo and murdering its crew. They made trade nearly impossible, and sea-travel extremely dangerous.
The Jaska hated the Korsan more than anyone, and were near total warfare with them. The Jaska tried to enlist the help of the Humans, but the humans refused. The Jaska needed their help, so they offered to teach the humans a few of their sailing skills in exchange for their help. The humans agreed to this, and with the Jaska they fought many battles against the Korsan. Eventually, every Korsan settlement was destroyed but one, and all Korsan ships had retreated to here to make their race's last stand. A massive fleet of both human and Jaska, including ships captained by both Berem Blueleaf and Rothtas Elrem, surrounded the now small Korsan fleet. The battle was over quickly, the Korsan fleet was destroyed, but there were heavy loses to the the human fleet as well, though not as much to the Jaska fleet. After the Korsan fleet was destroyed, soldiers went into the town and slaughtered every last person. There was controversy over who gave the orders for this, and it was hushed up by both human and Jaska governments.
The Jaska government also ran a side operation during the battle. There were Jaska on board many human ships, to help teach them the way of the sea, and that was the only reason for many of them. Some of them, however, were also saboteurs, and were responsible for the heavy losses the humans suffered during the battle. This plan was only known to the saboteurs and their commanders. None of the drowning humans from those fallen ships noticed the Jaska floating down to the bottom of the sea for the long walk home.
